FATAL DISCOVERY

Episode 3

Quickly, she steadied her breath which had become heavy because she was excited. Then raising the camera, she quickly took shots of the two in the room. They were great shots. She took several of them as the rain continued to fall. The two men inside the house were oblivious to the fact that a journalist of the 'Daily Tribune' was taking shots of them. Finally, satisfied that she had taken enough shots, Amanda slipped the camera safely into her bag and then, tip-toed away into the rain, with her heart in her mouth. When she got back to the main road, she broke into a ran, wanting to put a distance between herself and the house in which she had discovered the Prime Minister and the businessman transacting what was clearly illegal business. Even as she ran, Amanda began to build a story out of what she had discovered.
There was no doubt that this was going to be a blockbuster story, one that will shake the very foundation of the country and obviously cause a change in government. Elections were only nine months away and things did not look very good for the opposition People's Liberation Party, (PLP). In fact, pundits had been predicting a sixty-nine percent (69%) victory for the ruling government. However, all that will definitely change when the Prime Minister's connection to the drug world begins to unfold.
Amanda knew that her editor, Mr Quaye, will be very much excited about what she had discovered but will definitely ask her to investigate further before they break the story.
She could just imagine the pandemonium that will break out when the story hits the news-stand. One of the pictures was of the Prime Minister examining the cocaine. Another was of the businessman handing over a sachet of the white powdery substance to the Prime Minister. What heading will she give the story? Several headings passed through her mind:
PM IN COCAINE SCANDAL
PM CAUGHT RED-HANDED WITH COCAINE
PM CAUGHT IN THE ACT WITH DRUG BARON
Armanda decided that this was going to be the defining moment for her. When the story breaks out, she would definitely become the most talked about journalist. The electronic media will be scrambling for interviews with her. She could see in her mind's eye her pictures on the front page of some newspapers. She could also see members of the electronic media running after her for interviews.
Finally, she got tired and stopped running. The rain was subsiding. A taxi came passing by. She tried to stop it but the driver did not stop. She walked on. So happy was she with herself that all thoughts of going up north to investigate the sudden rise in cases of onchocercaisis were gone. Surely, with this story, the editor will want her to stay put and tackle it first. The board too would want that.
Meanwhile, inside the room in the solitary building where Armanda had taken the exclusive photo shots, the Prime Minister, still oblivious of the fact that he had been caught on camera transacting cocaine business with business tycoon, Isaac Brenya, was bringing the transaction to a close. The business he had just conducted had fetched him a whopping $2.2million. It had been good business for him. He got up and shook hands with the businessman.
“You always give me a good deal, Ike. Keep it up. I guarantee you a safe passage of the goods from this country. As agreed, after they go through our airport, they are no longer my responsibility” he said.
Isaac Brenya nodded, adding that the business they had just conducted was mutually beneficial.
“Just take care of how the goods will safely pass through the airport here. Once it's out of this country, and outside your domain, I have people who will make sure it reaches the intended destination safely,” he said.
The two men got up, shook hands and patted each other on the shoulders, satisfied with the business they had just done.
“By the way, you have not contributed a dime towards my campaign” the Prime Minister (PM) said, smiling. The businessman sighed, said he had plans to contribute and then immediately pledged $500,000.
“Good. Though victory is a done deal, I want to make it a gargantuan one” the Prime Minister said. Then he turned his attention to the CCTV that was behind him. It was showing scenes outside. If anybody was lurking about, it will appear on the screen. What was showing when the Prime Minister turned to it indicated that the coast was clear for him and the businessman to leave the building. There was nobody about.hi ishmeal on+233544142683 to be added to his story room to enjoy more of this..
He decided to rewind and play back what the CCTV may have captured in the last thirty minutes while he and his business associate were engrossed in their transaction. Immediately he started the playback, he froze; the sight of a young lady taking shots of them from the porch sent a chill down his spine.
