ODE TO LIFE

ODE TO LIFE

Life is a mystery
Some say it's a misery
Slithering off like a sly snake when sought
Coming to bite one on the nose when ignored
Its terrors, inducing shudders, imposed on mortals
Its pleasantness, served on a platter of gold
A bubbling sweetness, impossible to resist
Life, like a clear spring trickling over a bed of black rocks
Capitulating at the gentle tug of its chosen
Reining back in disgust, indifferent to the undertow of the desperate
Life, like a firewater pool
Its beauty and sweetness out of proportion
A grim lover
A pleasant reaper
Life, the most sought
The least earned
