FATAL DISCOVERY
Episode 4
“What is this!?”, he exclaimed as he stared at the young woman taking pictures obviously of him and Issac Brenya. Immediately, in spite of the fact that he was in an air conditioned room, he began to sweat. Isaac Brenya, popularly called IB, noticing the sudden change of mood of the Prime Minister asked what the matter was as he walked up to him. The Prime Minister did not give the businessman an answer. Instead, he allowed him a look at what was showing on the screen. IB froze! His mouth went dry! What had taken place was obvious: a young woman had sneaked in on them and taken shots of them together transacting their cocaine business. He stared at the screen in horror as it showed Armanda fleeing from the building after taking enough pictures.
“I can’t believe what I am seeing! This is impossible!” the Prime Minister said before screaming out for the two bodyguards he had come to the building, one of his safe houses, with. The two bodyguards, Perry and Seidu, came bursting into the room, ready to reach for their guns.
“Did anyone come here the last ten minutes?” the Prime Minister asked them.
“Of course not, sir,” Seidu replied, looking at his colleague, Perry, for approval. The Prime Minister, seething with anger, asked them to take a look at what the CCTV had recorded. He began to play back what the camera had recorded. The two bodyguards were soon starring in disbelief at Armanda coming to the building ostensibly to seek shelter, discovering the illegal trade going on in the room, taking enough shots of the two inside and then making a run for it through the rains.
The two bodyguards immediately knew they were in trouble. Before the rain started, both of them had climbed up two different trees in front and at the back of the house and made themselves comfortable among the leaves. From that vantage point, they could see anybody coming to the house without being seen. But then the rain had started falling and heavily too, making staying on the trees very dangerous. Though they had been trained in the army to survive under even more precarious conditions, the two had decided, after a while, that with the way it was raining very heavily, it was impossible for anybody to come to the building. So, they came down the trees and took refuge under a shed at the back of the building. Now, evidently, they had been wrong in their belief that no one will come to the building in the rain.
“You have let me down, Seidu! Perry! Where were you when this girl came up to the building?” the Prime Minister asked angrily.
The two bodyguards stared guiltily at the Prime Minister. They knew no explanation would satisfy him. A jittery Seidu explained what had happened.
“I am sure she chanced to come here when we were under the shed behind the building” he concluded.
The Prime Minister stared at the two guards with cold icy eyes. They stared back feargully at him. They had never seen him that angry before. They stood ill at ease in front of him.
They were both soldiers he had picked to become part of his security detail. But they had other duties too that was not known to the rest of the security men; they offered protection for the Prime Minister’s drug business. He had turned them into very wealthy men as a result, always paying them well after every deal is pulled off. Seidu and Perry thus had very huge amounts in off shore accounts and also boast a number of businesses in the country. For the first time, they had failed their boss.
“Sir, we can go after her right now. I am sure she hasn’t gone far” Sedu said as he got ready to sprint off if the PM gives them the permission.
“And if you catch up with her, what will you do? Kill her or arrest her?” the Prime Minister asked sarcastically. “The two of you have failed me big time. But, I will deal with you later. Now, does any of you know or recognize the young woman?” he asked. IB, as well as the two guards, shook their head. The businessmen then asked Perry and Seidu to go wait outside while he sorts things out with their boss. The two quickly left the room, recognizing that they were in grave danger. They knew that in the under-world of drugs, such slips that allow outsiders to know what is going on in the under-world are seen as betrayals punishable by death. Their lives were therefore in great danger.
As soon the two guards left the room, the businessman turned to the Prime Minister. Both of them recognized the grave danger they were in
“That lady could be a journalist or just a passer-by who took refuge here from the rain, stumbled upon us and understanding what was going on decided she could make millions out of taking a picture of us. She may be intending to blackmail us. She may be intending to sell it to a newspaper firm to make money. She may also be a journalist who, having stumbled upon us and recognizing us and what we were doing, decided she has an exclusive story and thus took pictures of us. I have the wherewithal to trace that girl within thirty minutes so leave it to me”, the businessman said
